I don't know why so many men like learning about the Roman empire, but this is probably the best place for it. I think. Probably. I've never cared about the Roman empire enough to fact-check that statement, but judging by the quality of the other articles Dr. Bret C. Devereaux writes, I'm quite confident in it.
A Collection of Unmitigated Pedantry (commonly referred to as "acoup") is a blog written by Bret Devereaux, "a historian of the broader ancient Mediterranean in general and of ancient Rome in particular." Bret writes about medieval and ancient history as well as their interaction with popular culture, with a focus on methods of production and common people in history.
History in general has never been one of my biggest interests. Bret hasn't changed that. But I enjoy knowing things, and this blog is really great place to know more things, if you catch my drift ;)
I know thousands of words long essays aren't for everyone. This blog won't change that. But it's still fun to read for me, even if most of the time I never finish them. In particular, I've enjoyed "My Country Isn’t a Nation", "Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires?", and most things in the "Military Theory Primers" collection.
